Why small communities are an integral part of the Jewish story

The future of Jewish North America won't be shaped only in its largest cities. It will be shaped in the communities where Jewish life is being built every day.

The problem we're solving.

Across North America, Jewish life is being built in communities too often overlooked. Yet dozens of small communities face significant challenges, from geographic isolation and limited resources to a lack of communal infrastructure designed to support them. Without strategic investment and intentional support, many may struggle to sustain vibrant Jewish life through 2054.

Why 2054 matters.

2054 is not an arbitrary date. It marks 400 years since the first Jews arrived in America in 1654, a milestone that Reut USA has identified as the horizon for a decade of American Jewish renewal. The choices we make between now and then will shape where Jewish life thrives, where communities are strengthened, and what the Jewish map of North America looks like for generations to come. AJ 2054 exists to make those choices informed, strategic, and intentional, not accidental.

In the meantime, the strategic intent of this initiative is clear: map every small and emerging Jewish community in North America, surface the ones at greatest risk, and build the intelligence infrastructure the field needs to act.
